“Who is Jesus Christ for us today?” This question asked over 70 years ago
by Dietrich Bonhoeffer gives voice to the question of the significance of
Jesus Christ in each and every age. Bonhoeffer’s question seems especially
pertinent today, as the contemporary church faces a host of challenges
posed to it both from within and from without.

For a church struggling to maintain its core commitments and to advance
its witness in this “present, evil age” (Gal. 4:1), the theme of the identity
and abiding relevance of the incarnate, crucified, resurrected, and ascended
Lord simmers as a source of discussion and acute debate. This book seeks to
serve the catechetical needs of churches and individual readers, instructing,
enlightening, and just so empowering believers living as an emerging
Christian minority in North America.
